Sub-compact tractors

Sub-compact tractors (typically under 25 PTO HP) are the workhorses of small properties, half-acre to ten-acre owners who need real PTO power, a 3-point hitch, and a front loader without committing to a full-size compact tractor. Think John Deere 1025R, Kubota BX23S, Mahindra eMax 20S, Kioti CS2520.

The trade-off is hitch geometry. Most sub-compacts use either a Limited Category I hitch (narrower lift arm spacing than standard Cat I) or a true Cat I with downsized loader and 3-point lift capacity. That means standard Cat I implements often need adapters or specifically-sized sub-compact versions.

• Verify the hitch is Limited Cat I vs standard Cat I, many sub-compact attachments are not interchangeable.
• Loader lift at 24 inches (not at the pin) is the number that matters for real-world bucket and pallet work.
• PTO HP under 25 means you'll want a 48-60 inch rotary cutter, not a 72 inch deck.
