Category II attachments

Category II (Cat II) is the standard hitch for utility tractors in the 40 to 100 HP range. Pin diameters are 1-1/8 inch lower and 1 inch top link, with substantially heavier lift arm geometry than Cat I. Cat II implements are typically 2 to 3 times the weight of their Cat I equivalents.

Cat II attachments include 6 to 8 foot rotary cutters, 7 foot tillers, larger seeders, and heavy-duty grapples. Lift requirements are higher, and many Cat II implements use 1000 RPM PTO instead of 540.

• Confirm PTO speed before purchase. Many Cat II implements run at 1000 RPM, which not every tractor supports.
• Cat II implements are heavy. Make sure your loader is rated to lift them on and off the 3-point.
• Some Cat II tractors accept Cat I implements with quick-hitch adapters or step-down bushings, but the reverse is rarely true.
